Rationale
Ghana's shift from an objectives-based curriculum to a standards-based model, driven by the Education Sector Plan 2018-2030, requires teachers to master new approaches to planning, pedagogy, and assessment. This course directly addresses the professional obligations outlined in the NaCCA curriculum framework, the National Teachers Standards (NTS 2a-2c and 3a-3k), and the NTC CPD Framework (MC10 and MC11). Participants learn to translate content standards and indicators into learner-centred lessons, use low-cost resources, align assessment with indicators, and document their practice for portfolio-based license renewal. By grounding every lesson in Ghana's official policy documents, the course ensures that teachers can produce credible evidence of their professional growth and compliance with national requirements.
Part I: Foundations (Lessons 1-4)
Lesson 1. Why Ghana Changed Curriculum - The Education Sector Plan 2018-2030 and the Shift from Objectives to Standards
Participants analyze the rationale behind Ghana's curriculum reform, examining the Education Sector Plan 2018-2030 and the shift from objectives to standards. They distinguish between formal requirements and recommended classroom practice, and construct an artifact aligned to the NaCCA curriculum framework, National Teachers Standards 2a-2c and 3a-3k, and NTC CPD Framework MC10 and MC11.
NaCCA curriculum framework; National Teachers Standards 2a-2c and 3a-3k; NTC CPD Framework MC10 and MC11
Lesson 2. Architecture of the SBC and CCP - Strands, Sub-Strands, Content Standards, Indicators and Exemplars
Participants explore the structure of the Standards-Based Curriculum and Common Core Programme, including strands, sub-strands, content standards, indicators, and exemplars. They learn to navigate these components to plan instruction and create a professional artifact that demonstrates curriculum alignment.

Lesson 3. The Core Competencies and 4Rs - What They Mean in Observable Classroom Behaviour
Participants examine the core competencies and 4Rs (reading, writing, arithmetic, and creativity) as defined in the SBC. They identify observable classroom behaviours that reflect these competencies and practice integrating them into lesson planning.
NaCCA curriculum framework; National Teachers Standards 2a-2c and 3a-3k; NTC CPD Framework MC10 and MC11
Lesson 4. From Indicator to Lesson - Planning a Standards-Based Lesson (The NaCCA Lesson Structure)
Participants learn to translate curriculum indicators into coherent, learner-centred lessons using the NaCCA lesson structure. They address the gap between curriculum architecture and classroom practice, and produce a lesson plan that meets professional standards.
NaCCA curriculum framework; National Teachers Standards 2a-2c and 3a-3k; NTC CPD Framework MC10 and MC11
Part II: Core Practice (Lessons 5-10)
Lesson 5. Learner-Centred Strategies I - Talk for Learning, Questioning, Group Work in Large Classes
Participants explore strategies for talk for learning, effective questioning, and group work in large Ghanaian classrooms. They practice adapting these techniques to classes of 40-50 learners and link them to the National Teachers' Standards.
